I dug out an old IBM clone mouse with a PS/2 interface that I need to use on a modern machine. I have a PS/2 to USB adaptor, but it doesn't appear to work. I dont have ps2 port in my system so I have bought usb to ps2 converter which was working when the same system was running with XP SP2. But the same is not working on vista n vista sp1 both. When I connect keyboard to ps2 of converter and usb to system there is flash in keyboard lights and then nothing happens. Keyboard is not working. There are at least three kinds of mice:
- Mice who only speak PS2.
- Mice who only speak the USB protocol.
- Mice which understand both, detect which pins are connected and 'speak' the right language.

An old IBM clone mouse sounds like type 1.
If you want to use that you will need an additional device which understands both the PS/2 protocol and the USB protocol and which translates between these two.
