The Holden Jackaroo began manufacture in 1998 with the introduction of the DOHC 3.5L engine boasting a 160kW power rating. European, Asian and Australian markets received the option for the diesel engine 4JG2; a 3.1L which superseded the problem riddled 4JX1 3.0L. The 4WD system was provided by the reputable Borg-Warner torque on demand system.
The Aisin AR5 5-speed manual transmission was one of the transmission options provided along with the automatic 4L30E 4-speed.
